Dr Snow and the Snow Daleks

Posted by Ian Blyth on 13 January 2010

While the UK is having its snowiest and coldest winter for decades it has not stopped some people having fun – especially as they cannot get to school. While most sites are pointing to the NASA picture of the UK (which is very impressive) here is a picture I took locally from someone who is obviously a Dr Who fan.

Interesting Date and Time

Posted by Ian Blyth on 8 August 2008

This morning there was a minute when it was 08:08 08/08/08.

What a great time and date. If you missed it then in 1 year, 1 month, 1 day, 1 hour and 1 minute after that date and time it will be 09:09 09/09/09. Can’t wait!

What Sports Car Are You?

Posted by Ian Blyth on 13 June 2008

I took this little test. Great because I have always liked the 911. I am sure most of the other comments for different cars are equally vague but positive. A bit like horoscopes.

I’m a Porsche 911!

You have a classic style, but you’re up-to-date with the latest technology. You’re ambitious, competitive, and you love to win. Performance, precision, and prestige – you’re one of the elite, and you know it.

Take the Which Sports Car Are You? quiz.

Religious Tolerance?

Posted by Ian Blyth on 23 May 2008

I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said “Stop! Don’t do it!”

“Why shouldn’t I?” he said.

“Well, there’s so much to live for!”

“Like what?”

“Well… are you religious?”

He said yes. I said, “Me too! Are you Christian or Buddhist?”

“Christian.” “Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant? ”

“Protestant.” “Me too! Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?”

“Baptist” “Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?”

“Baptist Church of God!” “Me too! Are you original Baptist Church of God, or are you reformed Baptist Church of God?”

“Reformed Baptist Church of God!” “Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915?”

He said, “Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915!”

I said, “Die, heretic scum”, and pushed him off.

– Emo Philips

There is a lesson in that joke for all religious people.

Tiswas Reunited

Posted by Ian Blyth on 17 June 2007

ITV ran a program celebrating that most famous of Saturday morning’s children shows – Tiswas. The original cast was there and there were lots of clips from the show. It was great. I have not laughed so much for ages. And it brought back great memories.

The show was great in its day. Totally chaotic and funny and was watched as much by adults as children. It is still funny after all these years. It was great to see Spit the Dog, the Phantom Flan Flinger and Sally James again amongst others.

An interesting comment that Sally made was that they could not do half of what they did back then today. That was the sad part. It just shows how far our politically correct nanny state has encroached on our lives.

If any politician says it is now for the better then they should get flanned! In fact it should be compulsory for politicians to get flanned on a regular basis. And bring back Tiswas!

Queues

Posted by Ian Blyth on 4 June 2007

Why is it that when I am in a queue at the supermarket the woman if front spends 5 minutes rearranging her bag/purse just so that she can fit in a small slip of paper? Men don’t do that. Perhaps we need men only queues!

Fractals

Posted by Ian Blyth on 19 April 2007

I like these pictures. http://content.techrepublic.com.com/2346-10877_11-56937.html. Here is one example.

They remind me of when I was a kid with Spirograph but now done with computers in 3D and nicer colours. And it seems that you can create them with various software packages. The highlighted one Choascope) is a free program for Windows. Got to their web site as well to see other examples.

“Webshots member sandyckatoused Chaoscope to create these beautiful fractal images. According to the Chaoscope Web site, the program is a “3D strange attractors rendering software.””

I think the Chaos Theory is great. The butterfly’s wings etc.

Free game from Microsoft

Posted by Ian Blyth on 8 March 2007

I was checking on Windows Updates and there was a critical download for Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) so I installed it as normal. At the end of the install there was a check box to go to the web site. Normally I would uncheck this but today I left it. On the web site they are trying to preach the advantages of WGA but what caught my eye is that there is a free game for download. I am happy to be bribed to install WGA as all my computers are genuine anyway. If you like these type of games it may be worth a look.

“Match-Up! is a fun new game for Windows XP that tests your memory and matching skills. Flip the cards and match the images while racing against the clock. ”
